Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be part of your organization to get this plate?

No, you do not. In fact, ordering the plate will greatly help the non profit as proceeds will eventually go to trail stewardship in the way of our educational platforms, Adopt-A-Trail Program and our Veterans Program, Trail to Recovery.

How much does this cost?

The annual cost is just $25, and we need 450+ pre-registrations to get DMV approval and make the plate a reality.

Even better β€” if we reach 1,000+ signups, the DMV will return $15 per plate each year to our nonprofit. That funding goes directly toward trail education, cleanups, and protecting off-road access across Virginia.

How long will this take?

The entire process may take up to two years. The estimated time for plate development andimplementation is nine months (times may vary), after legislation and DMV receive the Preorder applications.

What happens if we can't complete the project? Can I get a refund?

Great Question!

Should we for some reason not be able to complete the process, we will give you the option to either have your $25 returned to you or you can choose to make it a tax deductiable donation. We will hold these funds in a seperate bank account as we will need to pay the DMV these fees at the same time we give them the applications we’ve collected.

Most organizations that do the personalized plates do not offer a refund as an option, but we are!

Is the example the final design?

As for the design β€” what you see now is just a rough sample to spark interest.

It’s not the final version.

Once we collect the number needed to move forward, we’ll work with a graphic designer to create 2–4 professional design options, and those that apply for the plate will vote on the final look.

We’re excited about this project and appreciate your input in helping shape it!

You are a 501(c)3, is this tax deductible?

While it’s true we are a 501(c)3 and everything you donate is tax deductible, this project is not tax deductible, thats because the funds are going directly to the Virginia DMV once we reach the needed applications.

Can I apply for a motorcycle plate with this?

Yes, cycles are covered as part of the 450 needed. We will require an extra step in the process for create the cycle plate and have it signed off, otherwise the process is the same. When you pay your $25 fee, you will indicate which you are opting for and based on that you will get a slightly different application.

Do I need to fill out the application?

Yes, you do.

If you don’t, then you can’t get the plate.

I'm having issues filling it out, can you help?

Sure, so once you make a payment, I will send you the form to sign which will come from Sign.com.

When you get it fill it out as much as you can.

If there are fields in the form you are not using, you will need to click on each one and put a space in them with the spacebar. If you don’t, the form will not complete.

Should you have any issues, you can email us at joshua@vaoffroad.org.
