Ratings Guide Details
Ratings guide are not all the same across websites and platforms, and rating here in Virginia are a LOT different than those out West. Since we have teamed up with TrailsOffRoad.com, we have modeled our rating system after their mobile application.
Below, we explain what each rating means and why.
The easiest rating, these are mostly gravel roads with very few, if any crossings. You should able to easily do these in 2WD stock vehicles and most novices can do these without issue.
Ratings 3-4 are roads and trails that may require 4WD High in certain spots and provide some level of technical challenege, especially to those that are new to the Off-Road world. Still mostly stock, you can expect to hit some water crossings, perhaps mud pits, although not very deep in nature and some obstacles that will require a little of bit skill to over come.
This is where more challenging off-roading starts to take place. Typically stock rigs may have a hard time getting through these trails without modifications, you will want skid plates, larger tires, maybe a mild lift depending on the rig setup. You’ll find off road here mostly in 4WD High and some in 4WD low, occasionally using a locker, if rarely. You may also find water crossings or mud pits that are deep, upwards of 3ft or more.
You will want to use a more heavily modified rig in these trails. 35″-40″ or more tires, with higher end lifts and shocks, lockers and 4WD low will help you some here, but you may also need winch as you may easily get stuck if you take the wrong line. We don’t have very many places in Virginia that meet this rating.
We only have one trail in the Commonwealth that fits the rating, Pott’s Mountain Jeep Trail. Highly modded rigs are recommended and a few parts of the trail are very technical, you will want to be an experienced driver here and don’t go it alone.
