What Virginia Off-Road is all about
We’re not a social club or online group.
We’re Virginia’s ONLY 501(c)3 non-profit that is dedicated to off-roading, in the form of education, trail stewardship and building a community no matter what brand you drive.
Education Courses
From virtual to in person courses, we offer the Commonwealths ONLY dedicated Off-Road educational platforms for off-roading. From new EV’s to proving yourself with our Ultra Advanced courses and programs for newcomers, we have something for all, even a kids educational program!
Our kids education portal. Designed for 3rd – 5th graders, they take a small journey trhough the trails learning about keeping them clean, observing off road rules and why people enjoy off roading in the first place.
This course is designed for newcomers to the off road community. Instructor led online with a 1 hour course, followed up by a real trail ride. The course is a great overview to get people into the community! We have a suggestion donation of $20 for the course.
Whether you’re new to off-roading or a seasoned trail runner, Leave No Trace Behind is a must-take course that teaches how to explore Virginia’s trails responsibly.
Our EV Off-Road Course will give you the needed information to know and understand Off-Roading with an EV. While many aspects are the same as ICE vehicle’s, there are some differences to be aware of. This course will help you understand that.
Whether you’re new to off-roading or an experienced rider, the course helps ensure that all participants understand how to enjoy the outdoors safely while minimizing their impact on the environment. Offered entirely online, it allows for flexible, self-paced learning, making it accessible to riders of all ages and experience levels.
From Jeeps to Broncos, Toyota’s, Land Rovers and all types of off-roaders in-between, everyone is welcome to take the course regardless of what you drive. You do NOT need to be a VAOffRoad member to complete it.
Mastering the Terrain is an advanced off-road course that challenges your knowledge and skillset. Those that complete the course earn the badges at no cost.

Programs and Initiatives
From our Adopt-A-Trail Program which helps keep our trails clean, to our Trail Rescue SOS Platform where you can ask for help if you are stuck, we even have an Off-Road Educational Park in Bedford, VA. We offer a Veterans Program that build community as well as Off-Road Explorers for kids.
Trail to Recovery is a special initiative by Virginia Off-Road that gives back to those who served by using the power of off-roading as a therapeutic, confidence-building, and community-strengthening experience. Whether it’s a scenic trail ride through the Blue Ridge Mountains or an adrenaline-pumping day navigating rocky climbs, this program is designed to support our veterans both mentally and emotionally.
We’re excited to announce one of our newest initiatives — an official Virginia Off-Road specialty license plate!
Whether you’re an avid trail rider or simply want to show your support, this plate is for you. The best part? You don’t have to be a member to pre-order one. Every plate helps raise awareness and strengthen the off-road community across the Commonwealth.
It’s a simple way to make a big impact and show pride in your favorite off-road spots. Whether you’re solo or part of a crew, we’d love to have you involved.
We are setting up a new volunteer program for those that get stuck when off-roading and need help. Our Trail Resque program is led by volunteers all across Virginia that can help pull you out of those off-roading situations.
