This course is both virtual and in-person and takes you through the in’s and out’s of getting off the pavement and understanding off-roading.
Off Roading 101
About the Course
New to off-roading? VA Off-Road’s one-hour video workshop is the perfect way to get started. Designed for beginners, it covers the basics of 4-wheel drive, when to use 4WD High vs Low, gear essentials, and how to tackle your first trail safely.
We also cover trail etiquette, environmental responsibility, and how to preserve the land for future generations. Whether you’re preparing for your first group ride or exploring on your own, this course gives you the knowledge and confidence to hit the trails the right way.
Ready to get started? Join the VA Off-Road community and take your first step into the world of off-roading.
Virtual
There is a 1-hour video session with an instructor. You can ask all sorts of questions during the workshop and you will get insights into the off road community.
In Person
We will also have an in-person off roading adventure with your off roader. We typically do these near Roanoke, VA on Broad Run Road Trail where you will use your 4wd.
Quiz
There is a quiz that is mandatory after the workshop and you need to pass with 80% or more.
Completion
Once you complete the course, you will be given a membership badge for your rig, A Trail Badge for completing the trail, and get FROGGED too.

Schedule
We have virtual class every second Thusday of the month from 6pm to 7pm and the in person training is scheduled at the end of each month, weather depending. In person usually takes roughly 2-3 hours to complete the trail. More details will be provided once you sign up.
We typically keep each class between 5-7 people.
