At VA Off-Road, we’re not just about mud, rocks, and rugged trails — we’re about community, stewardship, and accomplishment. One of the most unique and rewarding aspects of being part of our nonprofit is our exclusive badge system, which recognizes everything from your first trail adventure to your lasting legacy in Virginia’s off-road community.
Whether you’re new to off-roading or a seasoned overlander, our badge program is designed to motivate, celebrate, and track your contributions and adventures across the Commonwealth.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of every badge offered by VA Off-Road, including standard badges, rare achievements, and every available trail badge.
General Membership Badge

The general membership badge is the most typical badge that we offer. The badge signfies that you help support Virginia Off-Road and the mission of keeping our trails clean, helping to educate those with proper off roading skills and the various events and projects that we offer as a 501c3.
The great thing about the membership is that it’s not brand or club exclusive, we gladly support all the groups and clubs within Virginia. We have a suggest price of $5 for the badge or it’s free when you join our 501c3 at just $2 a month.
Lifetime Member Badge

Our lifetime membership badge is a special badge for those that donate $250 or more to the 501c3.
Similar to the general membership badge, it has a gold edge indicating your commitment to the non profit. This is the next rarest badge that the program offers next to the trail cleanup badge.
Trail CleanUp Badge

One of the rarest badges we hand out, you can only get this by participating in our trail cleanups in person.
We love to keep our trails and roads clean within the Commonwealth and we work with VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation), Forest Rangers in the Jefferson and George Washington National Forest and Extreme Terrian, a proud sponsor of Virginia Off-Road.
Trail Rescue Badge

The Trail Rescue Badge shows that your are a statewide volunteer for helping those off-road with either medical needs or helping them get back to the main roads (getting stuck).
These volunteers will receive emails should someone fill out our SOS Form and need assistance on one of Virginia’s trails. The badge is usually given for free and we are reaching out to companies that have medical and recovery gear in hopes we can hand out some for the programs needs.
TrailMaster Certification Badge

Our TrailMaster Certification Program offers an online course and quiz to help educate and show those that are experts when off-roading.
By showing this badge on your rig, you indicate that you are a leaders when it comes to navigating the trails of Virginia. You need to pass the quiz with 80% or more to obtain the badge and we have a donation of $3 to cover the badge and a stamp to mail to you.
Trail to Recovery Badge

The Trail to Recovery Program is a powerful initiative designed to help veterans reconnect with the outdoors and experience the healing benefits of the off-road community. Through trail rides, overlanding, and camping adventures across Virginia, we provide veterans with opportunities for camaraderie, purpose, and adventure in a supportive, like-minded environment.
This badge is free to all vets that enter the program and there is no charge.
Leave No Trace Behind

The Leave No Trace Behind Program is a core part of our commitment to protecting Virginia’s natural beauty. Through this initiative, we educate off-roaders on responsible trail use, environmental stewardship, and conservation practices. Whether it’s packing out trash, minimizing trail impact, or avoiding sensitive habitats, our goal is to ensure that every trail remains open and pristine for future generations. We offer training, group clean-up events, and educational materials to help our community embrace a “tread lightly” mindset every time they hit the trail.
You can collect this badge as you complete the program.
Trail Badges
Virginia Off-Road offers various trail badges to those that complete these trails. These badges are for everyone, you do not need to be a member to obtain the badges, although we would love your membership, it’s free unless you wish to donate to the program. Each badge has a cost of $3, which covers the badge cost mailing it out. (It’s also tax deductible)
Also note, there are many other off road trails in Virginia, but we only offer badges for a select few of them.
Pott’s Mountain Badges

The Pott’s Mountain Trail Badge covers all three parts of Pott’s trails, including Pott’s Mountain Jeep Trail (Main), Pott’s East and Pott’s West trails.
Generally this badge is fairly rare as most that attempt the trail have heavily modified off road rigs, as stock vehicles (even in high trims) can’t do these trails.
Pott’s Mountain, Pott’s East and Pott’s West all share the same badge.
Flagpole Knob/(Union Springs)

Flagpole Knob and Union Springs is a very popular trail located near Harrisonburg.
The badge is one of the most popular we send out to off roaders, although the Unoin Springs side of the trail is much harder, Flagpole seems to be the fairer of the two by those within the off road community.
Mountain Lake Trail Badge

The Mountain Lake Trail Badge is fairly common and the trail is located just ast Blacksburg off US 460, close by where they filmed “Dirty Dancing”.
The trail is basically one large loop with various challenges along the way. It’s a lot of fun and stock rigs can handle a majority of the trail.
There is a great Fire tower at the top of the trail and there are some great views of the Blue Ridge as well.
Enchanted Creek Trail Badge

The Enchanted Creek Trail badge is another favorite among off-roaders. The trail is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and offers some great areas for testing out the capabilities of your stock rig, there is a creek that doubles as a tunnel under the Blue Ridge Parkway and the trail is only open certain times for the year.
Opens August 1st to Jan 1st every year.
Broad Run Road Trail

Broad Run is one of the most popular trails within SWVA. It’s fairly easy for stick rigs with a few sections of water crossings and an area to try out your 4WD system or cycle.
The trail is open all year round as there are homes and properties along parts for the trail.
Peters Mill Run

Jeep fans will recognize this as it’s one of the Jeep “Badge of Honor” trails. We also reconginize this trail as a badges trail as many other brands will run it and we want to offer everyone the ability to showcase they completed it.
The trail has a cost to run it and it’s recently been graded so its very easy at the moment, however a year or two and it will be washed out again and there will be various rutted out parts to go through.
Bald Mountain Trail

This badge covers both Bald Mountain in Craig County, VA and the one also known as Big Levels near Stuarts Draft, Virginia.
Both trails offer great off roading while the more complex of the two is the Big Levels trail, although the one in Craig County offers better mountain views and has some deep water holes to drive through.
Bobblet’s Gap

Bobblet’s Gap is another popular trail located between Bedford, Virginia and Botetourt County, VA.
The trail is very stock friendly with places to use 4WD, it runs under the Blue RIdge Parkway and is open from August 1st to Jan 1st of each year.
Other Badges
We do offer one other badge that we don’t advertise and it is a special badge once you collect all the trail badges, either a membership or lifetime badge and all the special badges. We call it a ‘Master Badge‘ and it’s given out for free when you complete everything. It’s has a gold sheen to it so the image below is a mock up as we have it on order.
