4×4 RIGS
Some Typical 4×4’s
Today, we will go over some of the more popular four-wheel drives in 2025 that people like to go off-roading with.

4×4 Rigs
Jeep
Jeep is one of the most popular off-roading rigs on the markets. WIth great 4wd systems, solid front and rear axles and a tall stance, these off-oraders are great direct from the dealerships and many people will modify them with off-road mods, ties, shocks, lifts, etc.
Jeep Wrangler
Based on the WWII model, the Wrangler is a 2 door model with a short wheelbase, making it one of the best off roaders out of the box.
Jeep Gladiator
The JT as it’s known in the Jeep world is a truck based version of the Wrangler, built with similar specs, just longer and includes a 5 foot bed.
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
The Wrangler Unlimited is a 4 door model of the current JL and comes with the same equipment as the two door.
4×4 rigs
Toyota
Toyota makes some of the most reliable rigs on the marketplace, along with it’s sister company Lexus. These are extremely great stock, although many people will mod them as well.
4 Runner
With a new generation out for the 2024 year, 4Runner is an SUV with a ladder frame and great setup. Serious off-roaders typically choose the TRD Off-Road, while the TRD Pro offers more features and a new edition, Trail hunter is specifically designed for off roading.
Tacoma
Now in a new generation, off roaders tend to love the 2nd generation. Much like the 4Runner, the TRD Off Road is most common while they also offer it in a more expensive TRD Pro and Trail hunter editions.
Land Cruiser
This new generation of LC is much smaller than the 2021 model, and s based on the Prado found in other countries. It’s extremely capable but with a higher price tag.
FJ Cruiser
Discountinued in 2014 in the US market, this SUV has similar unpinnings as the outgoing 4Runner and is a beat when it comes to orr-roading. Fans are hopeful that a new FJ will be coming soon.
4×4 rigs
Ford
Ford has make a comeback in 2021 with the new Bronco series. It comes in 3 flavors and a ton of new trims, combined with the nostalgia of their 1960’s Bronco with moden tech and has become very popular in recent years.
Bronco
WIth many trims to choose from, off-roaders like the Black Diamond, WIldtrack and Everglades trims. Many also choose the 35″ tire and shock packages called Sasquatch. Bronco is offered in both 2 and 4 doors.
Bronco Raptor
Only as a 4 door, this suped up version of Bronco is designed for high speed off roading and rock crawling. While more expensive, people that typically choose this will not mod very much, so if you plan to mod, choose Bronco instead.
Ranger Raptor
The Ranger isn’t as popular with off-roaders as the Bronco is, but in the right flavor with a rear locker, it can make a good truck for most basic trails and overlanding.
4×4 RIGS
Nissan
Nissan does off a couple of models that are off-road worthy with folks and that’s the Frontier Pro-4X and the Xterra, a discontinued model. Fans are hopeful that the Xterra will make a comeback and the Titan, their full size rig is really too large for off-roading trails.
Frontier Pro-4X
Frontier comes in a few trim levels with Pro-4X being the most aggressive (don’t confuse it with the Pro-X which is 2wd). It compares to the 2nd Gen Tacoma and offers a traditional V6 engine.
Xterra
SImilar to Frontier, Xterra is an SUV that was discontinued in 2015. The Pro-4X model is meant for off-roading although all models can easily manage easy to moderate trails.

Others
A few other models to mention here that many enjoy are from Chevy and Lexus.
Chevy Colorado
Trims that off roaders enjoy are the ZR2 and the very aggresive ZR2 Bison. Out of the box, these are seriously designed for moderate off roading.
Lexus GXSeries
THe 4Runner’s luxury counterpart, the GX offers a center differential and full-time 4 wheel drive. A bit more expensive, but it gives you that all the time 4wd feature.
GMC Caynon
Based on the same platform as the Colorado, the trims to get here are the AT4 and the AT4X with the 3″ lift.
