About the Course
New to off-roading? VA Off-Road’s one-hour video workshop is the perfect way to get started. Designed for beginners, it covers the basics of 4-wheel drive, when to use 4WD High vs Low, gear essentials, and how to tackle your first trail safely.
We also cover trail etiquette, environmental responsibility, and how to preserve the land for future generations. Whether you’re preparing for your first group ride or exploring on your own, this course gives you the knowledge and confidence to hit the trails the right way.
Ready to get started? Join the VA Off-Road community and take your first step into the world of off-roading.
Virtual
There is a 1-hour video session with an instructor. You can ask all sorts of questions during the workshop and you will get insights into the off road community.
In Person
We will also have an in-person off roading adventure with your off roader. We typically do these near Roanoke, VA on Broad Run Road where you will use your 4WD. Location could change though.
Quiz
There is a quiz that is mandatory after the workshop and you need to pass with 80% or more.
Completion
Once you complete the course, you will be given a membership badge for your rig, A Trail Badge for completing the trail, and get FROGGED too.

Next Online Class is Sept 11th from 6-730PM.
We host a virtual Off-Road 101 class each month via Microsoft Teams, followed by an optional in-person trail training at the end of the month, weather permitting. The in-person session typically takes 2–3 hours to complete and covers essential hands-on skills on one of our beginner-friendly trails.
