Trail to Recovery: Off-Roading for Veterans
Healing Through Community
Trail to Recovery is a special initiative by VA Off-Road that gives back to those who served by using the power of off-roading as a therapeutic, confidence-building, and community-strengthening experience. Whether it’s a scenic trail ride through the Blue Ridge Mountains or an adrenaline-pumping day navigating rocky climbs, this program is designed to support our veterans both mentally and emotionally.

Veteran Camping
Veterans camping program
At Virginia Off-Road, we believe the outdoors offers more than just adventure—it provides healing. That’s why we’re proud to offer camping opportunities specifically for veterans. Whether it’s a weekend under the stars after a trail ride or a multi-day trip into the mountains, these experiences are designed to build camaraderie, provide peace, and create lasting bonds with fellow veterans.
From solo tent spots to group basecamps, we host camping events across Virginia where vets can reconnect with nature and each other in a supportive, off-road community.

Want to Get Involved?
Off-roaders can join our 4WD club to help volunteer with our annual benefit ride or volunteer to lead veteran trail outings, giving back through the trails we all love. Businesses can support the mission by becoming program sponsors or donating off-road gear. Together, we can help veterans rediscover peace, power, and purpose—one trail at a time.
All veterans of our program will get our special Trail to Recovery badge at no charge. Vets that sign up also get FREE trail badges as they complete them.

Yes, we may ask you for either VA Healthcare ID card, or a copy of your DD-214. Sadly, some people pretend to be a vet to take advantage of benefits or scam people from time to time.
Yes, we allow vets to do ride alongside if they do not have a capable off-roader and we will try to help with some basic supplies like loaning tents and sleeping bags when possible.
Yes, if you use the donation portal above, that goes into the Trail to Recovery fund only and not the general Virginia off-Road fund.
The program helps cover the cost of fuel for vets that want to ride along (usually $10 giftcard), it helps cover the cost of some Facebook ads, camping sites (they usually range from $10-35 each), some basic equipment like tents, sleeping bags and lights. Additionally, it’s used to help cover shipping and the cost of the badges too.
No, you don’t. The Vet program is equal to our 4WD High program, but with a couple of perks. First, you will receive a special badge for being a veteran, plus you will not have to pay for the Trail Badge Program. As you complete trails, you will earn the badges for free. FInally, any educational programs we have, like the TrailMaster Certification for example, you will not need to pay for a badge, those will also be FREE to vets.
Programs happen throughout the year at various times. As a member, we will email you before things happen so you can sign up. If you have Facebook, we encourage you to signup on the Facebook Group for additional information on events.
